[...] Six months or so ago, I wrote the current version of Flock’s extensions site. It’s pretty simple and was intended to be simple. It wound up being even simpler than originally planned and has plenty of functionality hidden because we haven’t had a need for it or the ability to support it. We’ve thought a lot about various approaches to making extensions available, and I blogged some of those thoughts a few months ago. The quick summary is that we were waffling over whether to enforce quality for Flock extensions by officially hosting only a few or whether to have a free-for-all, or whether to blend the approaches. We ultimately decided on a blended approach, and we planned to launch a new extensions site in early February with the launch of the 0.5 release of Flock. For various reasons, that didn’t pan out. [...]

I would vote for alternative #2. That would give users many alternatives but a clear identification from Flock's staff of which extensions are considered "The Best". In my case, I would follow your recommendation, since you are the creators of Flock's code. If you feel an extension is good, but requires furter tweaking before it is recommended, then the extension's author must make the necessary improvements before obtaining your final approval.

This approach has been adoopted by many corporation that have experience in Total Quality Management. They only approve, those items that pass a certain quality procedure. If an item is rejected, it will need to be improved until a new testing is done. This will give Flock absolute credibility in the Web browsing community.

Cheers,

[...] I’ve been thinking a lot about extensions over the last couple of months because we’re slowly working on getting our extensions site up and running. Thanks to much great feedback on a blog post I wrote last week, I feel reasonably certain we’re going to proceed with some sort of hybrid of several of the listing strategies I proposed. That is, we’ll list pretty much all the Flock extensions we know about, the Flock crew will single some out as especially worth your time, and we’ll devise some way of incorporating community feedback as well.
[...] I’ve always enjoyed the abbreviations the Mozilla community has used. The 14-year-old boy in me gets a kick out of saying MoFo. The amateur linguist in me thrills at the amo abbreviation for addons.mozilla.org, as amo means “I love” in Latin, and this is a fitting expression given that the ability to extend Firefox is one of its most appealing features for many. Although I learned yesterday that Flock has been removed from Firefox’s list of supported applications (at the FAQ), the addons site does have a category for extensions that support Flock. This is great news, as it provides an interim solution to the trust issue I brought up yesterday. These extensions are uploaded by their authors and QA’d by Mozilla folk, so they should be safe and functional. As more and more authors port their extensions to work with Flock, more and more should appear at amo. Big thanks to the crew at Mozilla for showing us some love by listing Flock extensions.
I vote for # 4 because:

I think it is an even medium between maintaining a solid product and also larger support for the far reaches of the internet galaxy. In short, encouraging community efforts allthewhile maintaining solidarity is what I see as the best model.

Peace.

I think that the community should be in charge of testing and mantaining a proper (and even supported) extensions site, and of course when an extension reaches a point of perfection, it should be featured or sponsored by Flock.

I've already sent a response to the discussion list, and I hope I can help..

@miahz post brings up important areas of discussion about submission and update practises that for a large catalog require significant time and energy. If Flock with the community does not have the resources, then the decision is made for us.
